Weight-loss research comparison

Retatrutide vs semaglutide.
Start with the difference.

Two familiar names in weight-loss research. Compare their receptor targets, the studies behind the headlines and the exact catalogue listing.

Retatrutide and semaglutide are different peptide molecules. Semaglutide targets the GLP-1 receptor. Retatrutide targets GLP-1, GIP and glucagon receptors. That single-versus-triple distinction explains much of the language used around them.

If you are comparing weight-loss research, start with those names and then check the study. A receptor count describes the molecular profile. The trial design and measured outcomes answer separate questions.

The receptor descriptions come from the original retatrutide discovery paper and the primary semaglutide STEP 1 report. Catalogue status refers to the current Aurelis collection, checked on this page's publication date.

What does single versus triple mean?

An agonist activates a receptor: a target through which a cell receives a signal. GLP-1 stands for glucagon-like peptide-1. GIP and glucagon identify the two additional receptor systems in retatrutide's profile.

Retatrutide is a single peptide engineered to act at three receptors. It is not a blend of semaglutide, GIP and glucagon. The discovery paper identifies it by the development code LY3437943 and describes its single-peptide structure. See the original molecular description.

This also explains why a triple agonist and a named peptide blend are different catalogue concepts. One describes the activity profile of a molecule; the other describes a combination of separately named components.

Which weight-loss studies are being compared?

Semaglutide's STEP 1 report enrolled 1,961 adults with obesity, or overweight with a weight-related condition, without diabetes. It compared semaglutide with placebo over 68 weeks, alongside lifestyle intervention. Its main weight endpoints included percentage weight change and the proportion reaching a specified weight-loss threshold. Read STEP 1.

The September 2026 TRIUMPH-1 report enrolled 2,339 adults with obesity without diabetes. It compared retatrutide groups with placebo over 80 weeks. Weight change was a primary outcome; additional primary outcomes concerned defined subgroups with knee osteoarthritis or obstructive sleep apnea. Read TRIUMPH-1.

These two reports did not test retatrutide against semaglutide in the same trial. They use different follow-up periods and study plans. Keep the study name, participants, length and analysis method beside any percentage you read. Review the reported adverse events and discontinuations alongside the weight results.

Is retatrutide another name for semaglutide?

No. Sharing the GLP-1 receptor as a target does not make the molecules identical. Their names should stay attached to every research record and product enquiry. A familiar category such as “GLP-1 peptides” is too broad to identify a specific material.

For a third commonly discussed name, our retatrutide vs tirzepatide comparison explains the dual-receptor profile separately. The metabolic peptide overview places these names in the wider research area.

What does Aurelis list?

The Retatrutide catalogue entry lists 30 mg / 40 mg / 50 mg / 60 mg per unit. Semaglutide is discussed here as a scientific comparison and has no current Aurelis catalogue entry.

The retatrutide amounts describe listed product content. They do not establish a liquid concentration or a delivered amount. Our catalogue units guide explains that distinction. Published results describe the clinical study materials and populations; they do not verify an Aurelis batch or establish a treatment outcome for a catalogue unit.
