Peptide fragment guide

KPV and alpha-MSH.
Related does not mean identical.

Understand the peptide names, compare the research question and connect a KPV enquiry to the existing 10 mg catalogue specification.

KPV is a three-amino-acid sequence associated with the end of alpha-MSH; it is not another name for the whole hormone. The relationship explains why the names appear together in research. It does not make the two materials interchangeable.

Aurelis lists KPV 10 mg per unit. Alpha-MSH is the comparison molecule discussed here, not an additional Aurelis catalogue entry. Start with that distinction when a paper, quotation or shortened product name uses both terms.

What do K, P and V stand for?

The letters identify lysine, proline and valine, in that order. In alpha-MSH, these occupy positions 11 to 13 at the C-terminal end: the end of the amino-acid chain. Alpha-MSH itself is described as a thirteen-residue peptide. The introduction to Schaible and colleagues' original 2013 paper sets out this relationship. Read the primary paper, introduction.

That is why a literature search may show KPV as “alpha-MSH(11–13)”. The numbers identify positions within the longer sequence. They do not mean a range of milligram amounts, a concentration or a use schedule.

Does the fragment behave like the whole peptide?

A 2003 study by Getting and colleagues compared KPV, alpha-MSH and other related peptides in mouse inflammation models and cell experiments. Both KPV and alpha-MSH reduced inflammatory-cell accumulation in the mouse model. However, alpha-MSH inhibited the measured macrophage cytokine release in vitro while KPV did not. Read the original comparison.

A macrophage is an immune cell; cytokines are cell signals. The different results within the same study show why the measured outcome matters. Sharing part of a sequence does not establish that every response to the longer peptide belongs to the fragment. These observations concern the study preparations and experimental settings, not an Aurelis batch.

For the separate gut-research question, see KPV vs BPC-157. That guide compares intestinal study models rather than a fragment with its parent sequence. The broader KPV profile covers inflammatory-signalling research.

Why should a specification include chemical-form details?

A sequence name is a useful starting point, but it may not describe every part of a material's identity. A 1984 structure-activity paper explicitly records a C-terminal carboxamide sequence in the modified melanotropins it investigated. Read Cody and colleagues.

That example is a reason to retain the complete notation when matching a paper to a specification. It does not assign that chemical form to Aurelis KPV. Ask which terminal groups, modifications and counterion description apply to the offered item, and which identity record supports them. The counterion guide explains another part of this description.

What does the KPV 10 mg entry tell you?

The figure describes listed content per unit. It does not state a liquid volume, concentration or amount delivered by a device. It also does not turn KPV into a smaller strength of alpha-MSH: these are different molecular references.

Keep the material name and content basis together in a quotation. For example, a request for “KPV 10 mg” should receive a specification for that named material, rather than a general alpha-MSH research summary. Our content vs concentration guide separates the quantity fields.

Which records should accompany the enquiry?

Match the product reference, complete identity, lot number and reported content across the quotation and analytical records. Ask the issuer to explain any naming difference. A report that mentions alpha-MSH somewhere in its background does not, by that mention alone, identify the KPV lot being offered.

Keep a standalone KPV enquiry separate from a proposed blend. If a combination includes KPV, confirm its full component list, amounts and total-content basis. Unresolved blend details remain open; the standalone 10 mg listing does not fill them in. Use the blend guide and quality-documentation page for those reviews.
