The research context
SS-31, also known as elamipretide, is a mitochondrial-targeting peptide associated with cardiolipin biology. Cardiolipin is an important component of the inner mitochondrial membrane.
In September 2025, the FDA approved the specific elamipretide medicine Forzinity for certain patients with Barth syndrome under accelerated approval. The Aurelis 25 mg research listing is not that approved medicine.
